Mary Berry’s sausage bake takes 10 minutes to prepare and is perfect for a midweek meal

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 160C (140C for a fan or Gas 3).

Heat the oil in the casserole dish and brown the sausages until they are fully cooked. Then, lift the sausages out of the dish, and cut them into thick slices.

Layer the casserole dish with leeks, potatoes, lentils and sausages. Then, top the final layer with potatoes.

Make sure to season with the bay leaves and cloves, as well as add garlic cloves to each layer as well.

Pour in the chicken stock and bring to a boil. Cover it with a lid and place in the oven.

Cook slowly for two and a half hours, making sure to check the liquid levels occasionally.

Once almost ready, remove the lid and increase the oven temperature to 200C (180C fan or Gas 6).

Continue cooking for 20 to 25 minutes until the potatoes on top has browned.

Once ready, take out the oven and garnish with parsley. Your simple yet tasty sausage bake is now ready to serve hot.
