Homecoming’ Showrunner Teases a “New Direction” for the CW Series

All American: Homecoming is officially on its way back to the CW! Showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll has shared that production is currently underway for the show’s third season, and they’re currently filming one of her “favorite episodes” of the new season. Additionally, some recent changes to the series’ cast roster suggest that fans are going to be seeing some big shakeups happen on screen. First released on the CW in 2022, All American: Homecoming is a sports drama series that follows the students of Bringston University, a historically black university in Atlanta, GA. A spinoff of All American, Homecoming stars Geffri Maya as Simone Hicks, who transfers to Bringston to become a pro tennis players; Peyton Alex Smith is Damon Sims, a high school baseball prodigy; Kelly Jenrette is Amara Patterson, Simone’s aunt and a journalism professor at Bringston; Cory Hardrict is Marcus Turner, the tough and blunt baseball coach at Bringston University.

Season 2 of All American: Homecoming just finished airing, but work is already in full-swing for season 3, according to showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll. During All American‘s 100th episode party, Carroll spoke to Deadline, teasing that they’re currently working on “one of her favorite episodes” from the new season, which she likens to her love of rom coms and “beautiful, slow-evolving relationship movies.” Carroll has also confirmed that season 3 will see the series undergo a timeskip, similar to the gap between All American season 5 and 6. Regarding the new season, she had this to say:

“The actors have taken the new direction we’ve taken the show in and they’ve just raised it to another level. I am so excited for people to see this season of Homecoming and how our characters have also grown and matured and how they’re now handling situations differently.”

There’s been no word on what this “new direction” entails for All American: Homecoming, but something can probably be gleaned from some of the changes the CW series has made to its cast lately. Peyton Alex Smith and Kelly Jenrette have both been moved to recurring stars instead of series regulars, while Martin Bobb-Semple, who plays Orlando “Lando” Johnson, has been upgraded to a series regular.

More details on the new season of All American: Homecoming will likely become available as production continues. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently available to stream through the CW app and Netflix.
