Wes Gordon to Receive Award at Savannah College of Art and Design

Wes Gordon, creative director of Carolina Herrera, will receive the SCAD Étoile Award in Atlanta Thursday night, honoring his accomplishments in the luxury fashion industry.

The event is part of The Savannah College of Art and Design‘s SCADstyle2014. a four-day event that takes place in Savannah from Monday to Wednesday and Atlanta from Wednesday to Thursday, bringing together leaders in design and lifestyle for conversations.

Following SCAD president and founder Paula Wallace delivering Gordon his award, fashion journalist and curator Stefano Tonchi will interview the designer about his career.

Former honorees who have received this award are Reese Witherspoon, Catherine Deneuve, Carolina Herrera, David Yurman, Jonathan Adler and Pierre Cardin.

Gordon, who graduated from Central St. Martins in London in 2009, had his own eponymous designer collection before joining Carolina Herrera as a creative consultant in 2017. He took over as creative director of Herrera in 2018.

“SCAD is a tremendous institution that is playing an essential role in educating and inspiring tomorrow’s creative leaders. I am extraordinarily grateful to President Paula Wallace and Stefano Tonchi for this most gracious award, and I look forward to visiting both the Savannah and Atlanta campuses and meeting the students,” Gordon said.

Among some of the SCADstyle guests this week in Savannah are Francesco Risso, creative director of Marni, Hillary Taymour, founder and creative director at Collina Strada, Craig Robins, cofounder of Design Miami, fashion designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin, and George Yabu, chief creative officer of Glossier, among others.

The events will also showcase the university’s alumni during the Alumni Voices panel on Thursday that will feature Emily Smith (B.F.A. fashion, 2001), who is creative director of Lafayette 148 New York, Kan Ando (B.F.A., fashion, 2010), senior designer at Nike, and Lulu LaFortune (B.F.A., fashion, 2010), furniture and lighting designer. In honor of the university’s milestone 45th anniversary, the three will be presented with the SCAD45 Alumni Award for exemplary contributions to their professions and for demonstrating the prominence and purpose of a SCAD education.
