Two of Denver’s favorite pizza places are heading west for a pepperoni showdown.
Both Blue Pan Pizza (which specializes in Detroit-style pies) and Fat Sully’s (known for its gargantuan New York-style pizzas) opened new locations recently in Golden.
Golden “is growing into a top Colorado destination — for outdoor lifestyle enthusiasts and the Colorado culinary community alike,” said Drew Shader, the former University of Colorado football player who founded Fat Sully’s, Atomic Cowboy and Denver Biscuit Co., in a statement.
The company’s Golden spot, which opened in November at 1100 Washington Ave., includes all three brands. It seats 145 people and features a patio and Fat Sully’s signature walk-up window for slices. Denver Biscuit Co. operates in the mornings, while pizza and drinks rule the evening.
Atomic Cowboy now has seven outlets in the Denver area, although not all of them are 3-in-1. It recently scored a deal to open a store at Denver International Airport as well.
Just a five- or six-minute drive away, Blue Pan Pizza opened in December at 17525 S. Golden Road, in the former home of Basic Kneads Pizza, which closed in summer 2022.
Blue Pan was founded in Denver’s West Highland neighborhood in 2015 by childhood friends and business partners Jeff Smokevitch and Giles Flanagin. It later opened a location in Congress Park, followed by a food truck that hits up breweries, festivals and other events.
The 3,000-square-foot Golden location has been in the works for a while as the company was able to buy the building. It has two patios and is open for dinner currently.
