Google has announced the winners of Google Play’s Best of 2023 in India. These yearly awards recognise the best apps and games available on the platform. The awards included multiple apps and games that were customised for the Indian market. The announcement noted the strong rise of gaming in India with “more gamers from diverse pockets of the country joining the fold and immersing themselves in a wide array of titles across genres, including casual, sports, role-playing, and action.”

Further, the announcement also showcased a willingness to experience global franchises. Games like Monopoly Go!, Subway Surfers Blast, and Mighty Doom were all part of the winners. These games were winners of the Best Game of the Year, Users’ Choice game award and Best Pick Up & Play award respectively. Further, popular tiles such as Battlegrounds Mobile Inida (BGMI) and EA Sports FC Mobile Soccer were recognised. Further, there was also an increase in the localisation of games with titles like Battle Stars: 4v4 TDM & BR and Kurukshetra: Ascension that let gamers experience an Indian setting. Meanwhile, global titles also introduced Indian elements with Road to Valor: Empires including Indian warriors and Pokemon Go being offered in Hindi.
