The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the most stunningly beautiful locales in the world. We have the images to prove it.

Each year, photographers spread out around the Bay Area, climbing the highest peaks and strolling the streets of downtown San Francisco with cameras in hand. They carefully compose their images and choose their favorites to share on their respective Instagram pages. Some photographers also share their creations with SFGATE’s Instagram by tagging us in their pictures so their images could be “regrammed,” or reposted, by our account. From these thousands of regrammed photos, we selected our favorite pics from this year to share with you.

This year, the San Francisco Bay Area experienced one of the wettest winters ever, with fierce winds, intense rainfall and lightning even striking the tip of the Transamerica Pyramid. An image of the rare event was one of our most popular posts of the year, with more than 20,000 likes.

After the winter storms and record rains let up, the hills turned a vibrant green. One of the most brilliant displays of spring flowers in recent memory carpeted the hills and created beautiful foregrounds for some of the most photographed icons of the Bay Area.
