TRUMBULL — A fire broke out in the kitchen of a single-family home on McAdoo Avenue Friday night, causing heavy damage and leaving one person with first-degree burns, an official said.
Trumbull Center Fire Chief Richard Gregory said crews were called to a home on McAdoo Avenue on a report of a structure fire at around 10:30 p.m. Friday. Arriving firefighters found “heavy smoke” and a fire in the kitchen. Everyone inside the home safely evacuated, according to Gregory.
Firefighters contained the blaze to the kitchen, which was heavily damaged, Gregory said. The rest of the home “sustained moderate to heavy smoke damage throughout,” he added.
According to Gregory, the homeowner suffered first-degree burns to his hands while other family members were treated for smoke inhalation. Nobody went to the hospital, the chief said.

Gregory said the American Red Cross was helping to relocate the displaced family.
The Trumbull Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
“The Trumbull Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 Inc. would like to remind our residents to have working smoke detectors on all levels of your home as well as in all sleeping rooms,” Gregory said. “We also advocate for safe cooking practices and remind homeowners to never leave your stove un-attended when in use.”
