Jamie Oliver’s five-ingredient mug cake recipe is a ‘hug in a mug’ – ready in 5 minutes

Taking to his TikTok with more than 700,000 followers, Jamie Oliver shared his delicious vanilla mug cake recipe.

He said: “Happy January everybody. So my team have briefed me to come up with a hug in a mug, something beautiful.

“I’m going to show you how to make a beautiful mug cake. Now, interestingly, mug cakes are about the only thing that seems to be engaging my teenagers in the art of cooking at the moment.

“They see it on TikTok or Snapchat or whatever other platform they’re sharing around, and they come up with these incredible recipes that generally never work if I’m honest.

“So I thought I’d give you a delicious mug cake that does work, that’s amazing. This basis of a recipe is brilliant, and you can kind of flex it to do different things at different times of the year.”

Ingredients:

A small banana

Four tablespoons of self-raising flour

Four tablespoons of olive oil

Two tablespoons of dark sugar

One free-range large egg

Method:

To start with add a small banana to a food processor along with four tablespoons of self-raising flour.

That is followed straight away by four tablespoons of olive oil. Jamie said: “Olive oil is very much used in the south of Europe for cakes instead of butter which is more northern.

“What it gives you is a nice spongey sponge, so it’s a bit more bouncy and it’s good.”

Next, add in two tablespoons of dark sugar, although the chef said you can use any sugar if you don’t have the dark.

However, the dark sugar will create a lovely treacle and deep flavour within the sponge.

Follow this with one free-range large egg along with a little pinch of salt.

Turn on the food processor for one minute or until the cake mixture is nice and smooth.

Once done, divide the mixture into four as it makes four portions of cake.

Jamie added: “It’s so fast, it’s so easy, it’s really reliable and it’s delicious.”

The chef also added in some leftover Christmas chocolates to the top of the raw cake mix to add a sweet touch.

Next, put the cake into the microwave on full power for one and a half minutes.

Jamie noted: “It’s that simple, you’re going to love this. If you want to make this in advance and pop these in the fridge and cook them one by one then absolutely you can.”
