‘Easy’ cheesy potato recipe | Express.co.uk

Potatoes are a versatile food that can be cooked to produce so many different dishes, but whether you want a deliciously cheesy side dish or a special carb-based treat, one TikTok creator says she has found an easy recipe which will make use of food you might already have at home.

The finished result should produce golden potatoes which ooze with deliciously stretchy cheese when pulled apart.

Posting a video to TikTok, Jasmine, who shared under the username @jasmineandtea, revealed the simple step-by-step process to make her super cheesy potatoes. According to Jasmine, the recipe “uses just a few ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen”.

Though Jasmine’s method is quite straightforward and doesn’t use seasoning, viewers in the comments section have advised using herbs and spices to add some extra flavour to the dish.

Jasmine, however, says she prefers to use sugar to add a sweet kick. She also seasoned her final results with chives.

“Start by peeling one potato and cut it into pieces,” she explained. “Boil in some salted water until its soft and then you want to mash it.”

The TikTok creator explains how she uses a ricer to mash her potato “to make it easier”, but you can mash your potato whichever way you prefer.

“Add cornstarch and sugar,” she continued. “These aren’t overly sweet but you can leave out the sugar if you want.”

Next, using her hands, Jasmine moulds and pats her potatoes into rounded disk shapes. She does this by rolling the potato mix into a ball before flatting it with the palm of her hand.

Then it’s time to add some small cubes of cheese to the centre of the potato dough before moulding it around the cheese to create a sealed pocket. “Then just shallow fry it until they are golden brown on both sides,” she said.

How to make Jasmine’s “easy cheesy potatoes”

Step one: Peel one potato and cut it into small chunks.

Step two: Boil in salted water until the potato is soft. You can check its texture using a fork or knife.

Step three: Mash the potato and then add cornstarch and sugar. The sugar is optional. At this stage, some commenters recommend adding herbs or spices as seasoning. Again, this is optional.

Step four: Roll the potato into a ball and then flatten it with the palm of your hand.

Step five: Add cheese to the centre of the dough, cover and then seal.

Step six: Shallow fry your potatoes until golden brown on both sides.
