D Bar is ending its Uptown era with a bittersweet goodbye.
Standing in front of their commissary kitchen, owners and chefs Lisa Bailey and Keegan Gerhard announced in an Instagram video on Thursday that they will be closing their dessert-centric restaurant at 494 E. 19th Ave. in Denver on Sunday.
“Unfortunately, it won’t be possible for us to keep D Bar in Uptown any longer. It’s just not financially viable, so we have to close that store, but we’re not going away,” Gerhard said.
Fans of D Bar’s custom sponge cakes or happy hour nibbles, like sliders, crispy Brussels sprouts and cheesy fries, can still find them at the Central Park location. Gerhard, a former Food Network host, and Bailey opened the new bakery and cafe at 7302 E. 29th Ave. last year.
And in the New Year, the pastry chef duo are gearing up for a location in Denver International Airport’s Terminal A.
The couple opened D Bar’s first location in 2008, a couple of blocks away from where the Uptown restaurant resides now. They moved to the current spot eight years later. The quirky diner vibe and dessert menu that outpaces the savory bites make it a hub for sweets lovers, who still want a full-service experience while they sip on milkshakes with a side of three-layer chocolate cake.
