Clapham ‘chemical attack’ updates — Abdul Ezedi hunt continues as fugitive wanted for attempted murder

Ezedi’s last sighting

The latest confirmed sighting of Ezedi is now on Southwark Bridge at 9.50pm on Wednesday, January 31, detectives said.

Below is the full timeline of Ezedi’s movements on the night of the attack.

Witnesses recount horror attack

One witness said: “There was a little baby girl banging on the door on the man’s side, the lady was crying, screaming ‘my eyes, my eyes, police’.

“He opened the door, took out the baby and banged her against the ground twice, I’m talking hard, bang.”

A female witness added: “It was horrendous. I heard people screaming. I saw a car and thought there had been an accident.

“I saw him come out of the driver’s side and take out a child from the back of the car. He extended his arms and threw her like a rag doll to the ground. Then he did it again. I thought she was dead. She didn’t make any noise.

“I heard the baby say ‘I want my mum, I want my mum’. I was so relieved she was alive. I saw a silver canister that may have been what the corrosive substance was in.”

What was the substance used in the attack?

The Met Police said lab tests have identified the liquid as either caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) or washing soda (sodium carbonate).

Both caustic soda – also known as lye – and washing soda are typically used to clear blocked drains.

‘It all came flooding back’

A woman who was sexually assaulted by Abdul Ezedi in 2017 has said the memories “came flooding back” when images of the fugitive appeared on her television.

His first victim, who cannot be named, said: “It all came flooding back when the story broke of the attack.

“When his photo came up on TV I said out loud, ‘Oh my God look who is on there!’.

“I’ve been following it every day in the hope of seeing him arrested — or dead.

“I feel awful saying it, but it’s true.”
