AN ACTOR has revealed the “only” way to get over jet lag after a long flight – and it’s free of charge.
Eric André, an American actor and comedian, has revealed how he managed to recover from jet lag after a long haul flight.
Eric, famous in the states for The Eric Andre Show, has told how by rejecting his fear of jet lag, he managed to avoid its symptoms.
He said: “If you’re there for work and you have to get on a schedule—sunlight, sunlight, sunlight, and don’t drink too much coffee. But over the summer, I was like, I’m just going to stay up all night partying.
“Sleep when I sleep, and stay up when I stay up.
“Why get on a rhythm if I’m not there for work? I threw caution to the wind, and getting rid of the anxiety about jet lag actually helped my jet lag.”
Eric, who was speaking to website thrillist.com, explained that he found long haul flights to Asia easier than the eight hour trip to Europe.
He said: “Sunlight is everything — resetting your circadian rhythm.”
The comedian explained that often drank while travelling, often enjoying gin and tonics.
But then he discussed his drinking habits with his doctor, who warned him they were not benefiting his health.
Eric explained that he was currently taking a 90 break from all alcohol.
He said that he had recently returned from a trip to Africa, which he found profound and life chaning.
He said: “I explored several parts of Africa over the summer—it’s so vast and so multicultural and I always felt safe. God, it was really emotional and breathtaking.
“We learned about the slave trade and saw the actual dungeons that they kept the slaves in. You could see every episode of Roots and read the entire Western Civ 1 and 2 syllabuses and nothing will prepare you for stuff like that.
“I also took in the intense beauty, the diverse array of different cultures. I barely scratched the surface. I want to go to Kenya, Gabon, Namibia, and South Africa.”
Earlier this year a sleep expert revealed the best way to cure jet lag and explained why flying east is more tiring than going west.
Professor Leon Lack from Australia’s Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health shared the tips in time for holiday season.
The sleep expert from Flinders University revealed that the ticket to a jet lag free flight is light therapy. According to the professor, the “strongest tool” for readjusting your body clock is “bright light”.
Technology is now being used to tackle the issue. A free app – called Timeshifters – creates personalised lifestyle plans that aim to reduce the impact of jet lag.
Plans are generated based on sleeping patterns, personal preferences, and itineraries.
And its based on the latest circadian neuroscience which was developed by working with NASA astronauts, Formula 1 drivers and Olympic athletes.

The app tells users when they need to see things like bright light and avoid caffeine.
A statement on the Timeshifter website read: “The only way to reduce jet lag is by shifting your circadian clock, and the timing of light exposure and light avoidance is key.”
