Eldora, Loveland, Arapahoe Basin and Echo Mountain ski areas all announced that they will remain closed Thursday due to the upslope storm that has walloped Denver and pounded areas east of the Continental Divide.
Eldora reported 30 inches of snow overnight, and there have been snow slides on the access road to the area, according to the Eldora website.
“The county plow and grader have not been able to penetrate the snow slides across Shelf Road yet, and there is a day’s worth of work to do to prepare the mountain to open,” according to the website.
Echo Mountain, which is perched above Idaho Springs, received 24 inches overnight.
Arapahoe Basin received 15 inches and Loveland 11. Both said their closures were due to highway closures.
“On Wednesday night, the storm delivered 24-30 inches just east of the divide, about 10-15 inches near the divide, and 2-8 inches at most other mountains,’ according to OpenSnow founding meteorologist Joel Gratz. “On Thursday and Thursday night, snow will continue to favor areas near and east of the divide with 6-18+ additional inches.”
Steamboat reported only seven inches overnight, but resort officials are warning about adverse weather conditions coming later in the day.
“Around 11 a.m. we are expecting winds to increase, and throughout the day sustained winds up to 45 mph and gusts up to 85 mph will have impacts on operations and lift closures,” according to the Steamboat website.
