Dr Amir Khan shares how apple cider vinegar can boost weight loss

If you’re unfamiliar with the benefits of apple cider vinegar, TV’s Dr Amir Khan revealed how it can be highly beneficial to your health.

“Of course the best way to be healthy is to eat a varied, balanced diet full of whole foods, regular movement, good quality sleep, connecting with nature and having an active social life,” he began in a video on TikTok. However, he pointed out there are some ways in which we can “enhance” our wellbeing further by use of the popular condiment.

“Apple cider vinegar is one of them and it is all evidence-based,” Dr Khan said. The doctor went on to explain the process of its creation – by crushing apples and adding yeast to ferment them to alcohol. “Next, bacteria are added to ferment that alcohol further, turning it to acetic acid, which is thought to have all the health benefits that apple cider vinegar offers,” he said.

Dr Khan also explained how a number of studies show apple cider vinegar improves the function of our insulin and lowers our blood sugars after we eat. “So whether you’re diabetic or not, having blood sugar levels within your normal range is good for our health – but remember this isn’t a substitute for your medication,” he said.

He noted how further studies have shown apple cider vinegar can keep us fuller for longer, meaning we’re likely to eat less, which can aid weight loss. “Although more research is needed on this, apple cider vinegar has shown in animals to reduce cholesterol.”

Dr Khan went on to explain the most effective ways of using apple cider vinegar, advising: “The best way to incorporate it into your diet is to add it to meals while you’re cooking – or as a salad dressing, but some people like to add a teaspoon or two to a glass of water and drink it. Just remember, don’t drink too much and it’s never a substitute for a healthy lifestyle.”

A fan of Dr Khan’s guidance testified: “After 20 years of taking omeprazole I started on apple cider vinegar. After two weeks no meds required, not even once. Take with sparkling water.”

Another recommended: “Ensure apple cider vinegar has ‘mother’ on the label to ensure it has been through two fermentation processes.” A third enthusiast penned: “It’s a main ingredient to the home made chilli sauce I make, with fresh chilli’s, garlic, onion and fresh apple juice.” While others suggested consuming apple cider vinegar gummies as a convenient alternative.

Dr Livingood is also an advocate of the condiment, meanwhile, sharing his own advice with his 1.7 million TikTok followers. “If you’re struggling with heart issues, your blood pressure is up, your cholesterol is up, your triglycerides are up; apple cider vinegar contains a lot of acetic acid,” he said in a recent video.

The expert continued: “A large study was done – Pubmed Research – showing that acetic acid of 15ml to 30ml on a daily basis actually significantly lowered blood pressure issues, triglycerides and high cholesterol.

“At the same time, it took weight off mid-waist waist line, it burned up visceral fat which is the toxic fat around your organs and it lowered blood sugar better than metformin.” Metformin is a medicine commonly used to treat type-2 diabetes and gestational diabetes.
