‘Zuma sowing seeds of confusion,’ warns Fikile Mbalula

ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says the hijacking of the name Umkhonto weSizwe (MK), its legacy and symbols, is not an accident. “It is a deliberate attempt to sow confusion,” says Mbalula.

“It is a deliberate attempt to sow confusion by using the proud history of armed struggle against the apartheid regime to lend credibility to what is a blatantly counter-revolutionary agenda,” he said..

On Tuesday, the Electoral High Court handed down a reserved judgment involving the ANC’s application to declare former President Jacob Zuma’s MK Party registration unlawful and unconstitutional.

PROCEDURE FOLLOWED BY IEC IS UNLAWFUL – ANC

The ANC says the procedure to register the Mk Party by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) was unlawful and procedurally flawed. It demands that the MK Party be deregistered and declared invalid and unconstitutional.

“It is a matter of historical record that MK was a military wing jointly formed by the ANC and the SACP, and it operated under the political direction of the ANC National Executive Committee,” said Mbalula.

‘MK PARTY ACTIVITIES FIT WELL WITH RIGHT-WING POLITICS,’ MBALULA

Mbalula said that the activities of the MK Party were bordering on right-wing politics. He said leaders will come and go, but the party must always be intact.

“The activities of the MK Party and its leader fit very well in the broader strategy of the right-wing forces of “cutting the ANC to size and bringing it below 50%”,” Mbalula said.

He said that the ruling party would challenge the patents and ownership as to who owns the uMkhonto we Sizwe trademark name next week.
