“I used to work at Apple – this is how to save battery,” he said.

Here are his suggestions to improve your battery’s performance and life on iPhone.

Optimise battery

According to Morgan, it’s best not to charge your iPhone to 100 per cent all the time.

“Going out all day? Sure, go to 100%. Just don’t do it everyday,” he explained.

Fortunately, the iPhone has a battery optimisation feature to help you out.

“To reduce battery ageing, iPhone learns from your daily charging routine so it can wait to finish charging past 80% until you need to use it,” Apple’s notes state.

To switch it on, go to Settings, then look for Battery.

Tap on Battery Health & Charging and you should see Optimised Battery Charging.

Turn off background activity

Apps are constantly updating in the background so everything is up to date when you open them, such as WhatsApp messages.

You can switch this off – or just set it to Wi-Fi only to save battery.

“Turning off apps may help preserve battery life,” Apple’s settings note says.

To turn off background activity, go to Settings, then General.

Look for Background app refresh and switch it to Off or Wi-Fi.

Turn off location services

Location services is another useful feature that allows apps to find where you are.

“Don’t turn it off – I mean, we all need Google Maps and that,” Morgan says.

Indeed, apps like Google Maps need this to give you directions, so just switch off the ones you don’t use or need to share your location with.

Go to Settings, then Privacy & Security.

Select Location Services and switch off location services on the apps of your choosing.

Turn down brightness

The brightness of your display has a big impact on your battery.

So you might want to turn it down to save on the juice.

Just tap and slide down from the top right corner and reduce the brightness.

Turn off Hey Siri

According to Morgan, having Siri listen out for when you call it uses battery.

To turn this off, go to Settings, then Siri & Search.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best…

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, letting you move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapped squares in the bottom right-hand corner, and press close all tabs
  • Delete lots of photos quickly – Hold down on a photo and then drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select lots of images at once, then hit delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of your Home screen (or swipe left to right on an iPhone X or later model), then tap in the bar and type a currency (like $200) and it will automatically covert to your local currency
  • Check if you’re due a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and check out the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally a battery is considered worn when you’re down to 80% capacity. If you’re below, you can buy a battery swap from Apple
  • Move apps around faster – Hold an app until it starts wiggling, then (while still holding) tap other apps, causing them to stack so you can move them around easier
