The “Future of Marvel Comics’ X-Men” panel at SXSW brought Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort together to look at the future of the franchise. They were joined by writers Jed MacKay and Gail Simone for the event. According to them, the X-Men: From the Ashes relaunch will center around the three announced flagship titles. According to Brevoort, each title will focus on one of the major aspects of what the X-Men have been about at different points in time. This allows the creative teams to explore different styles, tones, and approaches. It is shaping up to be an X-Men era that will offer something for everyone.

Alongside the three main titles of the relaunch, the panel also debuted the names of other titles fans can expect. They include StormX-ForceX-FactorWolverineNYX, and Phoenix. For now, no synopsis or creative teams have been revealed.

New Series For A New Era

X-Men: From the Ashes also received a short trailer out of SXSW that teases the excitement waiting our favorite mutants. Plus, a synopsis for each flagship title reveals which X-Men will be on the teams. For McKay and Stegman’s X-Men it is Cyclops back in the role of leader. He oversees the mutants based in Alaska which includes Beast, Magneto, Psylocke, Kid Omega Temper (Oya), Magik, and Juggernaut. They will be battling for the destiny and philosophy of the mutant species.

Meanwhile, Simone and Marquez’s Uncanny X-Men finds Rogue leading a group of mutants in New Orleans. They include Gambit, Nightcrawler, Jubilee, and Wolverine. This team will be less about preservation of the mutant species and more about fighting to protect those that fear and hate them. Finally, Ewing and Canero’s Exceptional X-men gives Kate Pryde a group of mutants based in Chicago. She is working with Emma Frost to teach three new mutants, Bronze, Axo, and Melee.

It all kicks off with X-Men #1 on 07/10. Then Uncanny X-Men #1 on 08/07. Rounded out with Exceptional X-Men #1 on 09/04.
