Justin Penny, Head of Aviation at Flight Centre UK has warned frequent flyers that booking tickets just before the weekend could cost significantly more.

She says its because corporate workers and business travellers flying out for work always prefer to get back home before the weekend.

And due to the excess demand, price of the tickets on Fridays are generally more than average.

She said: “This is because of the corporate booking window: business travellers want to head home before the weekend, and airlines know they’re prepared to pay more to do so.

As a result, prices are always more expensive for Friday flights.”

She advised to book long-haul flight tickets on Saturday instead to get much better rates.

“If you travel on a Saturday instead, you could save hundreds of pounds on long-haul routes.”

However, the expert claimed that it is different for short-haul flights.

“Short-haul travel is different. European airlines know that Britons are more likely to fly out and back with different carriers, so the competition keeps prices lower. “

She also advised to avoid booking tickets at the last minute as they are significantly costlier in price.

“Booking last-minute is never a good idea.

“It almost always works out as more expensive than booking in advance.”

Meanwhile, a flight attendant revealed a life hack that could save hundreds on flying over the Christmas period.

Esther Sturrus, who works with KLM airlines, advised customers who are searching for deals online should use the “private” browsing mode.

She said: “Often, travel sites and airlines will record your browsing history by installing cookies on your browser.

“These companies know how often you visit their site and will typically raise the price because of your frequent visits.”

With the private browsing on, the websites can’t track or trace your activity.

“During Christmas, airlines often experience a surge in passengers, leading to increased demand for flights.

“So additionally, being patient and understanding can go a long way during busy holiday flights.”
