Wangchuk ends 21-day fast, to continue stir

Award-winning Ladakhi innovator Sonam Wangchuk completed his 21-day protest fast in Leh on Tuesday, with no response from the Centre. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah to act like statesmen and accept the demands of the people of Ladakh for statehood for the Union Territory (UT) and implementation of the sixth schedule of the Constitution.

Thousands of people joined Wangchuk during his fast over the past three weeks, and now women from the Buddhist, Christian and Muslim communities in Leh will hold a protest fast from Wednesday to press for the demands. The three-day protest fast in Kargil, in solidarity with Wangchuk, also ended on Tuesday evening.

During his protest fast, Wangchuk regularly posted updates on social media.
