NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday sharpened his attack on West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and accused her government of turning Hindus into second-class citizens in the state.
While addressing back to back election rallies in Bardhaman-Durgapur and Krishnanagar, PM Modi alleged that All India Trinamool Congress is indulged in corruption and politics of appeasement.”Why have Hindus become second-class citizens in Bengal. “The Congress, TMC and Left parties only believe in the politics of appeasement,” PM Modi also said.
During his address, PM Modi also criticized TMC for its ‘apathy’ towards the victims in SandeshKhali, where allegations of sexual abuse against TMC leaders have surfaced.
“The state government, due to its appeasement politics, didn’t touch the main accused in the Sandeshkhali case as his name is Shajahan Sheikh. So many atrocities were committed against women there, and the entire country wanted punishment for the culprits. But, the TMC kept protecting the main accused till the end,” he said.
On the recent seizure of a huge cache of ammunition by CBI, PM Modi rhetorically wondered whether the weapons were meant for ‘strengthening democracy’ in West Bengal.
PM Modi also came down heavily on the Bengal government for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act.
“The Congress, TMC and Left parties only believe in the politics of appeasement,” Modi added.
Moreover, the Prime Minister also assured help to ‘genuine teachers and candidates’ who have lost jobs due to the School Service Commission (SSC) scam and asked the West Bengal BJP unit to create a separate legal cell.

BJP will support such honest candidates and will provide them legal help and will fight for them. This is Modi’s guarantee,” he added.
