The three rude passenger traits that everyone hates – and you probably do at least one of them

A TRAVEL expert has revealed three passenger traits that everyone hates when deboarding a plane – and you probably do at least one of them.

Getting off a plane once you’ve landed can be a chaotic experience with passengers wanting to get out as fast as they can.

However, a travel expert has urged jet-setters to be more aware of their surroundings, and listed three annoying traits everyone hates.

Passengers don’t need to jump up from their seats as soon as the plane has landed, they claimed.

It is common to see people leap up straight after the seat belt sign is turned off.

The travel expert wrote in the Boston Globe: “This is something that continues to baffle me.

“As if standing will get the ground crew to move the bridge to the plane faster.”

It takes around 20 minutes before people can leave the aircraft.

However, some passengers may feel the need to stand up to stretch their legs.

The travel expert recognises this and recommends travellers stretch their legs once they’ve landed but be sure to sit back down, “relax and stay out of the aisle”.

One rude passenger trait everyone has been guilty of is rushing ahead of others.

Most likely you have seen arrogant travellers pushing past others to get off the plane.

Yet, this wasn’t the case during the pandemic, which saw passengers disembark depending on which row was called.

This meant that everyone got off in an orderly fashion and no “cretins” were able to cut ahead of people.

The expert admits that this rule can be broken if you’re rushing to catch a connecting flight.

However, the expert explained that the flight attendant should be notified so they can help you get off the plane quicker.

Finally, people need to wait their turn before deciding to “shove” others to position themselves better.

“If you’re seated in row 21, you should not leave until row 20 is empty,” the expert explained.

Trying to force your way ahead of people won’t get you off the plane any quicker.

Instead, the fastest way to get out is to exit by columns, according to a 2014 Journal of Air Transport Management.

The study showed that everyone would benefit if people in the aisle seat exited first followed by passengers in the middle aisle and then those sitting in the window seats.

This would be a problem for families or those travelling with kids, so the system is unlikely to become a reality.

Nonetheless, an orderly exit is more efficient, according to the study.

How to exit an airplane without being rude

  • Don’t rush ahead of others
  • Wait your turn
  • Your backpack or carry-on luggage should not be used as a weapon
  • Don’t take out your phone and start shouting into it
