An idyllic market town in the southeast of England has been named as one of the best towns for commuters, but a house here is well out of reach for most ordinary people.
In a list compiled by Marylebone-based estate agents Kubie Gold, Beaconsfield was crowned as the best place for London commuters to live.
According to Kubie Gold, Beaconsfield is “a thriving commuter town surrounded by the stunning Chiltern countryside.”
Indeed, Beaconsfield residents are blessed with some truly stunning landscapes. The town is surrounded by lush beech woodlands and wildflower meadows, all covered in winding footpaths for locals to explore at their leisure and providing a welcome contrast to the hustle and bustle of London.
One popular Sunday afternoon pastime amongst residents is the two-mile circular pub walk in the Beaconsfield countryside, beginning at the Royal Standard of England – the country’s oldest pub!
Beaconsfield’s streets are equally as charming, providing a quaint atmosphere that couldn’t be more different from Central London. Rather than chain coffee shops and fast fashion mega-stores, the town centre is bursting with little independent spots.
Jungs is a German-style bakery that many locals frequent to satisfy their sweet tooth, with their almond croissants getting particularly good reviews, whilst a farmers’ market is held each Sunday in a wonderful expression of community spirit.
Good transport links are vital for any commuter town, and Beaconsfield is well-endowed in this department! A train into London Paddington takes only 23 minutes, whilst the towns’ proximity to the M40 means it has excellent road transport connections as well.
Plus, the range of schools in the area is huge with options for both public and private education.
It must be said, however, that the Beaconsfield lifestyle is expensive! It takes the top spot for average property prices, winning it the “Britain’s richest town” accolade in 2008.
In 2011, nearly half of its for-sale properties were valued at over £1m – the highest in the UK!
According to RightMove, Beaconsfield houses fetched a whopping £1.16m on average in 2023, which is more than triple the average for England.
