This beautiful village is often missed as tourists opt to visit a more popular market town just four miles away.
Blockley is places right at the top of the Cotswolds, famous for being the filming location for TV series Father Brown. The late Norman church, St Peter and St Paul’s, was used as the fictional St Mary’s Church and the vicarage as Father Brown’s residence.
The village – known as one of the largest in the Cotswolds – was a main centre of the silk industry in the 18th and 19th centuries.
It is home to two great pubs – The Great Western Arms and the Crown Hotel. The Great Western Arms is famous for its Sunday roasts, while the Crown Hotel also has rooms on offer.
There is also a local cafe placed right next to the church, serving up fresh coffee and brunch for tourists looking for a pit-stop before a busy day of exploring.
And despite its many drawing points, tourists often opt to stay in Moreton-in-Marsh which is just four miles away. The pretty market town is home to numerous shops, restaurants and cafes.
But for those wanting somewhere quieter, Blockley makes the ideal location for a staycation. With numerous cottages up for grabs on sites like Airbnb, it’s perfect for those looking for self-catering accommodation.
Or for those wanting a hotel stay, The Crown Hotel has rooms available for £90 a night. The three-star hotel is highly rated by visitors, with one person saying it was “lovely” while another called it “charming”.

The village of Blockley has a number of 18th-century buildings and some that are even older, dating back to the medieval period. The mill ponds are also present, just off the Blockey Brook.
It’s the ideal start point for a number of walking routes, with countryside on all sides. A walk along the cobblestone walkways is a must when visiting this village.
It is possible to visit some of the private gardens, the churches, and beautiful locations like Batsford Arboretum and Cotswold Falconry Centre.
It also has great transport links, accessible from the A44 via the B4479 from Bourton on the Hill. You can also follow the road from Chipping Campden, through Broad Campden and up the hill into the village.
