The Last Airbender Season 2

Avatar: The Last Airbender is getting two more seasons, but Team Avatar isn’t quite complete yet. Netflix has ordered a second and third season for its live-action adaptation of the Nickelodeon series, which dropped its first season back in February. While the first season introduced most of the series’ core cast of Aang, Sokka, Katara, Zuko, Ozai, and others, fans of the original series will notice that there’s one important name that’s still missing from the live-action lineup. Toph Beifong has yet to make her debut, but the producers of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender have assured fans that they’re following the original closely, meaning she’s almost here.

Avatar: The Last Airbender doesn’t have a good history with live-action adaptations, but thankfully, the makers of the Netflix series seem to have learned from the mistakes of the past. Season 1 of the live-action series debuted to mixed reviews in February 2023, starring Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, and Ian Ousley as Sokka. Like the original series, Season 1 mostly followed Team Avatar as they came to terms with what it means for Aang to be the Avatar. They also had their first clashes with antagonists like Zuko (Dallas Liu) and Uncle Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee).

Not much is currently known about what Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 might have in store, but executive producer Jabbar Raisani has said that they’re following the original animated show as closely as possible, according to The Direct.

“We really rely on the animated series. So I think you’re gonna see a lot of the dynamics that were true in the animated series come through in live action. It won’t be a one-to-one. You can never do a one-to-one, but, you know, expect that feeling all over again.”

If this is true, then it’s likely that Season 2 will be taking Team Avatar to the Earth Kingdom, just like the original did in its second season. There, they met Toph Beifong, a blind twelve-year-old girl who was secretly a champion earthbender and a force to be reckoned with. She and her completely unique style of bending joined Team Avatar to continue Aang’s training, and she would become a big part of the team going forward. She’s also a fan-favorite among audiences who love her take-no-prisoners attitude.

Since the 2010 movie adaptation didn’t include her, Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender will hopefully mark Toph Beifong’s first live-action appearance, and we’re on the edge of our seats. There’s no word on when Season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender is supposed to come out, though all eight episodes of Season 1 are currently available on Netflix.
