EUROPEAN city breaks are perfect for beer drinkers, with some of the best booze in the world produced right on our doorstep.
However, there’s one city that people often don’t think of, despite it having some of the cheapest beer in the continent, as well as plenty of tourist attractions.

Bosnia & Herzegovina is a country that often slips under the radar, despite its fascinating history, amazing natural landscapes and beaches with crystal-clear water.
According to a team of travel experts at eurochange, Sarajevo, which is the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has some of the cheapest beers in Europe, with a pint costing £1.75.
There are plenty of places to grab a craft beer too, including Zlatna Ribica and Gastropub Vucko, both of which are popular among locals and tourists alike.
Not only are the pints cheap, but plates of grub in the city are extremely affordable too.
The travel experts at eurochange have revealed that holidaymakers can purchase a three-course meal for as little as £10.93 per person.
One of the country’s national dishes is the Bosanski Lonac – a stew packed with chunks of meat and vegetables.
The market is a great place to find traditional dishes like cevapi, flatbreads filled with grilled meat, and burek, flaky pastries filled with cheese, spinach or even sour cherry for dessert.
The city’s Turkish influence can be seen in the bazaar, with traditional coffee, clothes and rugs among the many stalls.
Laura Evans-Fisk, head of digital engagement at eurochange said: “Whilst Brits can often snap up some cheaper deals by booking a package holiday, the destinations can be limited to the more popular resorts across Europe.
“If exploring a lesser-known destination is important to you, booking flights and accommodation separately is often the best way to go. However, it doesn’t mean you can’t still find a bargain deal.”
In addition to the bargain food and drink, there are plenty of things to do in the capital city.
One of those places is the War Tunnel, or Tunnel of Hope, left over from the Bosnian War, which was originally built in 1993 to get aid and humanitarian supplies into the city.
Other important attractions in the city include The Museum Of Crimes Against Humanity And Genocide 1992-1995.
The museum, which first opened in 2016, serves as a reminder to remember all the victims of the war.
Both Ryanair and Wizz Air operate direct flights from the UK to Sarajevo, with flights starting from £15 for a one-way ticket.
Flights from the UK to Sarajevo take roughly two hours and 40 minutes.
Accommodation is also cheap, with overnight stays costing, on average £56 per night, according to the research from eurochange.
Sun Online Travel have found an overnight stay at the Pigeon Square Rooms, which is just 150 yards from the city centre, for £38 per night.
There are other options too, including a five-star hotel called Enjoy Apartments, which also costs £38 per night per room.
There are three local languages in Bosnia & Herzegovina, including Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian – although English is likely to be spoken at most hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions.
The Convertible Mark (KM or BAM) is the country’s official currency, with £10 getting 22.87 KM/BAM.
Sarajevo is the only underrated city break in Europe that’s home to cheap beers.
Bratislava in Slovakia is a relatively small for a European capital, but it has a lot for visitors to explore along its streets.
Chief among them is its incredibly affordable beer selection, with pints averaging around £1.60.
Such is Bratislava’s pull for beer drinkers, food and drinks blogger Global Treats described it as “heaven” for those who like a pint and said beer was cheaper than water in some places.
Meanwhile, this European city was named the world’s cheapest holiday destination.
