In a heartfelt conversation with NDTV, Aziz shared his fond memories with Udhas and paid tribute to the late ghazal maestro. “Yes, it’s a sad day for me personally also because we started a career together almost the same year, 1980, and it’s been almost 44 years now. And we have had some amazing times, great times, spent some lovely evenings together, a lot of memories. And all I can say is that farewell, my friend. It was a good journey while it lasted. See you on the other side,” Aziz expressed.
Reflecting on their camaraderie, Aziz fondly recalled their post-concert gatherings filled with laughter and impromptu singing sessions. “So many times we have sung in concerts together, but after the main concert was over, we used to meet in our respective suites…and then we would start singing old film songs,” he shared, highlighting Udhas’s humour and musical prowess.

Aziz also acknowledged Udhas’s health struggles, recalling a conversation they had just months prior. “I knew that he was not well. I had spoken to him a couple of months back and he was saying, ‘I have a very bad viral bug. But it was much more serious than that,” he disclosed.

Amidst the sorrow, Aziz graciously honoured Udhas’ talent by recounting their shared moments on stage, particularly reminiscing about their rendition of the iconic Gungroo Toot Gaye during their last foreign tour in 2018. They were joined by their close friend and Bhajan and ghazal maestro Anup Jalota.
As the conversation drew to a close, Aziz extended his condolences to Udhas’ family and admirers, acknowledging the irreplaceable loss felt across the music world. “An era has passed, that’s all I can say,” he lamented.

His family has informed that the last rites of the singer will be held on Tuesday. “With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of his demise on the 26th of February 2024 due to a prolonged illness. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, February 27 from 3 to 5 pm. Venue: Hindu Crematorium, Worli (Mumbai) Landmark: Opp. Four Seasons, Dr. E. Moses Rd, Worli,” The Udhas Family shared in a statement. He is survived by wife Farida and daughters Reva and Nayaab.
