Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah Producer Asit Modi Opens Up BJP’s Campaign Featuring Characters From Show Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls

Asit Kumarr Modi, the producer of ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’, defends the inclusion of the show’s characters in a BJP campaign post, refuting allegations of a violation of the model code of conduct.

Asit Modi, the producer of India’s longest-running TV show ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah,’ revealed that iconic characters from the show have been used in one of the campaign posts by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. BJP took to Instagram and shared a post showing how they have helped people over the last few years, but in a unique way.

To convey this message, the campaign utilized the iconic characters from the comedy show. Some members of the audience criticized the post for potentially breaching the model code of conduct by influencing voters. In an interview with India Today, the producer of the show dismissed these claims, sharing that it’s a rather hypothetical post.

“I got to know about the post sometime back, and I do not think there’s anything objectionable about it. The post is in good jest and doesn’t influence anyone to vote for the political party. The first statement itself begins with a question mark, ‘What If?’ It has been created using hypothetical situations, so I don’t see anything wrong with it,” he said.

Take a look at the post here:

This is not the first time when the show has publicly associated itself with the ruling party. Earlier, the makers of the show openly said that they are the promoters of the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’. In 2019, the show promoted the act of voting through one of its storylines.

The portal further asked Asit Modi if he would be comfortable if another party picked characters from his show to promote themselves. To this, the producer said, “Honestly, it all depends on the content they create with it. So many people on social media use our characters to create content. But if anything is brought to our attention, we will definitely look into it.” He also emphasized that as a team, they are unable to constantly monitor social media due to their commitment to producing content for their audience.
