Sourcing Journal Breaks New Ground With Launch of China Edition

With China’s economy showing strong signs of a rebound, growing by 5.3 percent in first quarter of 2024, WWD sister publication Sourcing Journal is taking a big step further into the market with the launch of its first international edition, Sourcing Journal China.

In partnership with Chinamind Next, which has published WWD China, Beauty Inc China and Footwear News China since 2019, Sourcing Journal China is marking its official launch Monday during the fifth edition of the WWD China Global Fashion Sustainability Summit.

Distributed digitally on WeChat three times a week, Sourcing Journal China includes on-the-ground reporting, original stories, market insights, industry reports and syndicated coverage from the U.S. that’s most relevant to the Chinese audience.

Since its founding in 2009, Sourcing Journal swiftly became the leading voice for sourcing and manufacturing industry thought leaders. Part of PMC since 2017, Sourcing Journal’s expert editorial team leads the industry conversation with smart investigative journalism, breaking news, analysis of global market conditions and industry white papers and reports.

The need for news and insights covering China’s supply chain has never been more pressing. The sustainability transition, geopolitical shifts and increasing trade tensions have caused numerous challenges for the global supply chain.

One of the key objectives of Sourcing Journal China is to foster greater collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders across the global supply chain. By serving as a platform for dialogue and engagement, the publication seeks to facilitate meaningful connections and partnerships that drive innovation, sustainability and efficiency throughout the industry.

“With the fashion landscape being strongly interconnected across continents, the decision to launch a dedicated edition to the supply chain in China is both timely and strategic. As one of the world’s largest and most dynamic markets for fashion and textiles, as well as one of the largest manufacturers, China plays a pivotal role in shaping industry trends, production processes and sourcing strategies”, said Chinamind Next chief executive officer Fu Lin.

In announcing the launch of Sourcing Journal China, Peter Sadera, editor in chief of Sourcing Journal, expressed his excitement about the publication’s expansion into the Chinese market. “Years in the making, this launch marks an important step in the global reach of Sourcing Journal. Our world and our industry has never been more interconnected, making this a crucial extension of the SJ ecosystem.”

“As the leading content platform for global supply chain industry professionals, Sourcing Journal China will deliver the same high-caliber content and in-depth analysis that has established its parent publication as an industry leader, with a strong focus on the pressing issues of our industry, like material innovation, sustainability and intelligent manufacturing,” said Johannes Neubacher, cofounder and chief content officer of Sourcing Journal China. “Sourcing Journal will cover breaking news, exclusive interviews and in-depth features and market forecasts. The new edition will offer comprehensive coverage of the entire supply chain ecosystem, catering to the diverse interests and priorities of its audience.”

Sourcing Journal China is also planning to publish two annual issues of Rivet.

To provide even more tangible solutions, Chinamind Next has also been taking the lead in establishing the first green alliance in China’s supply chain — Sustainable Fashion Supply Chain Alliance — with the launch of Sourcing Journal China.

The alliance is committed to support the industry by providing expertise and insight, from raw material sourcing, manufacturing and distribution to logistics, all from a sustainable perspective.

With China’s recent push for “new quality productivity,” Sourcing Journal is also planning to organize forums and summits focusing on material innovation, industry upgrades, sustainability and many other key topics.

Sourcing Journal is a part of the Fairchild Media Group, a division of Penske Media Corporation (PMC), the leading source of fashion news and analysis for industry leaders and the global fashion community.
