The vehicle rental company DiscoverCars.com has shared the most popular destinations for holidays during springtime, according to the social media platform Instagram.
With winter out of the way for another year, more wildlife is appearing and temperatures are on the rise, making it the perfect time for a short change of scenery.
Aleksandrs Buraks, Head of Growth at DiscoverCars.com highlighted that the selection of countries tourists are posting about online is incredibly varied, leading to a variety of experiences this spring.
He explained: “We think this top 20 is a really interesting selection of countries, each with their own spring traditions. Something we like about the list is the fact that spring in each of these countries will be a different experience, down to what time of year it falls at.
“If you were to visit Australia or New Zealand in spring, you’d be travelling from September to November, meaning you might get to see two springtimes in the same year!”
According to DiscoverCars.com, the most popular spring holiday location for social media users is The Netherlands, with 64,177 Instagrammers posting about the country.
Known for being low and flat, The Netherlands has a large number of flower fields, with tulips in particular blooming during spring, giving the country some incredibly vibrant scenery.
As a result, many tourists like to travel to The Netherlands during this time of year to go on a ‘Bloemenroute’, a walk in the countryside to get some fresh air and admire the views.
Interestingly, the company also highlighted that the UK was another popular choice for Instagrammers looking for a springtime holiday, coming second on the list with 48,169 posts on the platform.
With the rising cost of living, more families are looking to take staycations wherever possible, and the UK has many beautiful sights to offer.
In particular, DiscoverCars.com suggested tourists looking for a mix of wild blooms and snow should head up to the Scottish Highlands, whilst those in search of some sun could benefit from a trip down to Cornwall, said to be the English Riviera.
However, travellers looking to head further afield for a holiday this spring could take a trip to the United Arab Emirates, the third most popular choice for social media users with 47,858 Instagram posts.
Unlike most of Europe, many tourists tend to avoid travelling to the country during the summer, when the temperature can climb up to a staggering 50 degrees in some parts.
In comparison, temperatures typically stay in the high 20s and low 30s during spring, with many visitors taking a look around the Dubai Miracle Garden during the season to admire its unusual features, including an aeroplane covered in flowers and a tunnel of umbrellas.
