Shining Vale Canceled at Starz and Will Be Removed From the Streaming Service

2023 has not stopped giving TV shows the axe as we near the end of the year. Starz has canceled the Courtney Cox-led series Shining Vale and will remove it entirely from the streaming service by December 31.

The series ran for two seasons. It followed a family moving into a haunted house. The matriarch, played by the Scream star, is the only one who can see the ghosts and starts to feel the consequences of moving into the home. By the second season, her daughter, played by Guy Birney, also starts to see ghosts. They were joined by Greg Kinnear, Merrin Dungey, Dylan Gage, and Mira Sorvino.

Shining Vale Canceled at Starz and Will Be Removed From Its Streaming Service

Jon Astrof, who co-created the series with Sharon Horgan, reacted to the news on his social media accounts. Working on the series gave him “unrelenting joy” and wrote that there was “not a single bad day.” He then encouraged people to check out the series by writing, “Please watch the #starz (turns out, Limited) series #shiningvale before 12/31. #wearephelps.” As of writing, Horgan has not made any statements about the cancelation.

Every year, explosive cancelations happen for shows, like Starz axing Shining Vale. In the streaming era, it has become more prevalent to erase the shows entirely. Disney Plus has removed plenty of its originals, like erasing Crater after 48 days and the Willow series after just six months.

HBO, on the other hand, has canceled Westworld after four seasons and has since removed it from its platform. These are just a few of the many examples of shows or movies that become inaccessible after being removed from their streaming homes. It further shows the importance of physical media for audiences to have some ownership over their favorite movies and series.

Shining Vale is still currently available on Starz for the next 11 days. The supernatural comedy has all 16 episodes available, as its second season recently concluded on December 1.
