Shekhar Suman says his son Adhyayan Suman and Kangana Ranaut had a happy relationship and it was just a phase that ended their relationship. The statement comes years after Adhyayan claimed he saw Kangana performing what looked like black magic.
Mumbai: Back when Kangana Ranaut was still just an actor, that too a ‘problematic’ and ‘entitled’ one as considered by many in the industry, her ex-boyfriend Adhyayan Suman and his father, Shekhar Suman would give many interviews about how she harassed and used Adhyayan in their relationship. Now years later, the Sumans seem to have taken a U-turn on what they said earlier. In his latest interview around the release of the Netflix film Heeramandi, Shekhar Suman answered a question about Adhyayan-Kangana’s relationship and revealed for the first time that the two shared a ‘happy’ equation.
Suman was promoting the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial in which he plays the role of a landlord during the pre-Independence era when he commented on the bond that his son shared with Kangana, now a politician and BJP’s candidate in the general election from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. While speaking to Zoom TV, the senior actor said his family doesn’t judge Adhyayan or Kangana for being in a relationship that couldn’t shape up well. He said, “We are not hanging on to it – neither the family nor Adhyayan. It was a phase in their life. Who are we to comment and judge? The biggest problem is when we become judgmental. We have gone on our way and everyone is working towards their happiness and contentment. There is no point turning around or pointing fingers or saying ‘this is right’ or ‘this is wrong (sic).”
Shekhar Suman says it was all about the destiny
He then went on to blame everything on destiny and how Kangana and Adhyayan were happy until they weren’t. He said neither he nor his family hold any hard feelings against Kangana and one should simply look at the brighter side of any relationship. “Destiny has other roles to play and you have to follow destiny. Kangana and Adhyayan were happy when they were together and they went on their ways. It was destined to happen so there is no ill will and inimical feelings towards each other. Sometimes, things happen in the heat of the moment but one should look back with fondness (sic),” he explained.
Adhyayan and Kangana dated each other in the year 2008 during the shooting of Mohit Suri’s Raaz-The Mystery Continues. They ended their relationship the next year and when Kangana began to talk about her breakup with Hrithik Roshan and everything that conspired later, Adhyayan began to talk to the media in support of Hrithik, claiming to have seen Kangana performing what looked like ‘black magic’ on him. He even said his mother once called a priest at home who warned him against a ‘pahadi girl’ mixing her ‘impure blood’ in his food. Kangana always laughed off these allegations and maintained that she likes being called the ‘black magic witch’ by her ex-boyfriend.
