Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumes

The highly anticipated trial within the trial of the five men accused of killing former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa is expected to resume at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday, 22 January.

The matter was postponed in November 2023 after legal counsel for accused 1 and 2 Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu was not feeling well.

When the trial within a trial which looks into the admissibility of confessions allegedly made by accused 1 and 2 was postponed lead investigator Bongani Gininda was on the witness box.

Five men are on trial in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria for the murder of the soccer star. Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunition.

All five men pleaded not guilty as the trial has started afresh under Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng.

WHEN DO COURT PROCEEDINGS START?

Court proceedings typically start at 10:00, adjourn at 13:00 for lunch and resume again at 14:00. However, due to unforeseen circumstances on a particular day, there are delays, and sometimes court adjourns for either tea or lunch earlier than the set times indicated above.
