Three years ago, Singapore-based Canadian designer Brandy Dallas founded emerging contemporary label Sans Faff to address sustainable, well-made basics amid a sea of “fast fashion haunts,” she told WWD.
The brand has since gained a cult following in Singapore (where it is stocked at a handful of multi-label boutiques) for its original bamboo foundational layers (T-shirts, bodysuits), expansion into custom “Enviro Rib” street bamboo layers, and its evolution of event dressing and tailoring (in Eastman Naia cellulosic fibers), priced $300 to $800.
“We went with fully certified fabrics — we source our yarn, we know the entire chain of custody of our supply chain from where the bamboo is grown and where the yarn [is] spun. This has been a core to building the brand from the beginning that’s being carried through to the new tailoring,” she said, noting the brand has a responsible supply chain and is waste neutral.
Now, the brand is expanding to U.S. distribution (including Fwrd, Revolve, Free People and select boutiques) with its spring 2024 collection.
“New York is the global epicenter of culture, innovation and creativity. It feels like the right time to amplify our message and redefine what luxury power dressing really means. For us, we’re really working to shift the focus away from temporary, fleeting trends and focus more on enduring essentials. Those power pieces that you can layer and you can dress up and down,” Dallas said.
As seen through the brand’s holiday and spring collections, the designer is continuing to evolve her signature brand ethos of polished, quiet power dressing. Highlights across both lines include sharp-cut suiting (a white, power shoulder blazer with matching vest and pin-tuck palazzo pants); button-up shirting (both classic or with sheer elements); blazer minidresses; versatile little black dresses and slinky gowns (some with detachable statement bows), and sophisticated Enviro ribbed long tops (or an adorable mini square-neck catsuit). Within her upcoming summer capsule, Dallas also plans to introduce color (fiery red), elegant yet sexy lace layers and linen tailoring.
Speaking to the brand name, Dallas said, “We want to eliminate the ‘faff’ around putting together a super curated wardrobe and let it be very sleek. As in, when you reach for something in your wardrobe and you know it’s going to punch — there’s no doubt it’s always a crowd pleaser; it feels good, and you know exactly how you’re going to go about your day in that wardrobe. It’s our mission to fill that space.”
