While talking to India Today, Sandeep said that Bobby Deol’s character, Abrar, in Animal is a misogynist. The director added more to his statement, revealing he felt horrible when people called him a jerk, pervert, and narrow-minded. He said that he was shocked that ‘Arjun Reddy‘ did not create such controversy in the south after its release, but the remake, ‘Kabir Singh,’ caused a different reaction when ‘copied and pasted’ in Hindi. The filmmaker said that he never expected such a horrible experience from the people, considering the movie was exactly the same as ‘Arjun Reddy.’
On an interesting note, Sandeep talked about misogyny, stating that Bobby Deol’s character is misogynistic in ‘Animal’, and not Ranbir Kapoor’s. He said that Abrar commits domestic rape, and people can call him that. However, calling Ranbir’s character Ranvijay, Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh misogynistic is ‘nonsense’.Sandeep also stated that he does not agree with those calling Ranbir’s character or Arjun Reddy misogynistic. While reacting to the criticism, the director said that he does not bother about it as long as the box office numbers are huge.
‘Animal’ director Sandeep Reddy Vanga says ‘only 15-20 jokers’ think that the film is ‘misogynistic’: ‘It’s a wrong word to use…’
‘Animal’ has already crossed Rs 850 crore at the worldwide box office.
