After India, North America (United States of America and Canada) has become one of the biggest markets for Indian cinema. In recent times, films like Animal, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, RRR and Baahubali franchise among others have done tremendous business there. Salaar began on a positive note, despite clashing with Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan, who was already riding high on the success of Jawan and Pathaan. But as the days progressed the film kept on losing steam while Dunki showed promising results. And now, nearly a month after the release of both the films, Salaar seems to have more or less completed its theatrical run with a total collection of US $ 8.9 million, making it the 10th highest grossing Indian film in North America, after blockbusters like Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, PK, Padmaavat, Dangal and Animal.
Going by the numbers Salaar had managed to touch US $ 8 million within 10 days of its release but in the following 20 days, it failed to add even 1 million to its kitty. The other big December release of the year, Animal, has worked wonders at the North America box office, collecting nearly US $15 million claiming the fifth spot in the list of highest grossing Indian films in North America.
The makers of Salaar are now working on the second part of the film Shouryaanga Parvam, which will explore the relationship between Prabhas and Prithviraj and unearth the narrative as to why the two best friends turned into enemies. The film stars Prabhas, Prithviraj, Shruti Haasan, Sriya Reddy and Jagapathi Babu.
