Raúl Martinez Returns to Vogue as Global Creative Director – WWD

Raúl Martinez is returning to Vogue as global creative director. His appointment is effective Feb. 5. He will be based in New York and will report to Anna Wintour, editorial director of Vogue and chief content officer of Condé Nast.

Martinez will oversee creative direction for the brand globally and Vogue’s visual approach on all platforms. In particular, he will be tasked with guiding Vogue’s video efforts to ensure that video is seamlessly embedded across all storytelling, including short form and social clips, news-driven reels, and longer features.

“Vogue has always been a home for showcasing new voices and talent. One of the things I am most excited about is using our platform to introduce up-and-coming creatives to the world, as well as to mentor young artists,” said Martinez in a statement. “I also look forward to imagining new ways to tell stories – whether in-book, on social, digital, or video. And, of course, I am so excited to be returning to Condé Nast and to once again partner with Anna.”

Martinez first joined Vogue in 1988 as an associate art director. He left in 1996 to co-found a creative and branding agency that created campaigns for luxury brands including Valentino and YSL. He returned to Vogue in 2009 and in 2015, was named Condé Nast’s chief creative officer.

“Raul knows Vogue inside and out, and is not only a brilliant, creative thinker, but a great leader and wonderful colleague,” added Wintour in a statement. “I know I speak for the entire team when I say I am so thrilled to have him back.”

Martinez left Vogue in 2021 to become creative director for Victoria’s Secret and Co., which was then undergoing a brand image overhaul. He replaces Juan Costa Paz, who will remain at Vogue through February and then return full-time at his creative agency. He will continue to work with the brand on Vogue World Paris and other projects.
