Radio star Erin Molan addresses ‘sad’ feud with NRL legend Andrew Johns: ‘I feel sick now’

Media personality Erin Molan says her long-running feud with NRL legend Andrew Johns still makes her “feel sick”.

In 2022, Molan — who used to cover NRL games with Johns on Nine — revealed her and Johns “don’t really speak”.

She has since resigned from the network but to this day she doesn’t understand how their relationship fractured so badly.

Moran rarely speaks about Johns these days but during her radio show on 2DAY FM on Wednesday, Moran’s co-host Dave Hughes brought up his name.

“Joey Johns … we don’t like to mention his name on the show because you and him have beef … or he has beef with you,” Hughes said on Hughesy, Ed & Erin.

To which Moran replied: “I feel sick now.”

She said he was very “conscious” about discussing the feud publicly because neither of them of actually speak about it.

“I don’t want to feed it … but yeah, it upsets me a lot because I never understood why,” she said.

“And I kind of reached out to him a few times over the years to try and talk or ask why, and, I guess, if there was a reason I could think of then maybe I would understand.”

She said was well aware that not everyone had to like each other in a workplace.

“We got along really well at the start like for the first year or two,” she said.

“And then something changed and I can genuinely say that I’ve never had any issue with him, but, umm, for whatever reason, he stopped liking me …. communicating.”

She said they worked with each other for another seven or eight years after Johns stopped talking to her.

“Off-air I would try to make conversation but then you just kind of stop because it was in front of people,” she said.

“I don’t want this to become a big thing again.

“But for whatever reason he’s not fond of me and that makes me sad.”

Hughes asked if Johns would say ‘hello’ to her if they saw each other today.

“Would avoid his gaze if you were in the same room?” Hughes asked.

Molan said, “I used to say ‘hello’ and still kind of said ‘hello’, but not much back.”

Molan stressed that he she had tried a few times over the years to break the ice.

“We were in a room together once, in a room together at the footy show, and I said ’have I done something? What can I do to fix this?’ And for some reason he just doesn’t want that relationship,” she said.

She also revealed their children are friends and go to the same pre-school

“Our girls go to pre-school together and are besties and he still won’t say hello,” she said.

She said there were some reports that suggested Johns was cool on Molan because he thought that Molan was not good at her job.

But she was unsure if that was true or just speculation.

“No one else seemingly really understands (either),” she said.

“It obviously made life hard for a lot of years there.”

Johns is a NRL Immortal and is widely considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of the game.

He represented NSW 23 times and played for Australia 26 times between 1995 and 2006.
