Pourhouse Bar and Grill to begin rooftop expansion work Jan. 20

In just a week’s time, work will begin at Pourhouse Bar and Grill, one of downtown Loveland’s many restaurants, to expand upward.

The bar will be adding a rooftop patio space, featuring both indoor and outdoor options for people waiting for a table downstairs or looking to enjoy the downtown scenery as they sip a drink and eat some food.

Chris Kline, who has owned the restaurant for the last 12 years, said he has seen a steady stream of hungry patrons coming to the restaurant continuously over the years, oftentimes leading to people waiting longer and longer for a table.

“I noticed a lot of times we’d have so many people come in to eat and they’d (be told) ‘oh we have an hour wait’ and (you) see them turn around and walk back out,” he said, later adding “I (thought) ‘what if we could add more seating?’”

The $1.3 million expansion would add a staircase to the entrance of the building leading up to a rooftop patio that would seat 48 more people and have two staff members between an indoor seating area and outdoor patio. Kline said the space would be used not only as an extra waiting area for people who have not been seated but also a space for patrons to enjoy some time outside during the warmer-weather months.

The work on the expansion will begin Jan. 20, though patrons will not see much of the early work as crews will be spending time in the basement ensuring the building can support the extra weight that will come from the rooftop expansion.

Kline added that the restaurant, at some point, will have to close during the construction process when some of the rooftop work is being done; however, he said this would only be a two- to three-day closure and would be posted about on the Pourhouse Facebook page ahead of time.

He added that while the expansion is expected to be completed in early June, he is prepared for potential slowdowns in construction should issues arise.

Kline thanked his customers for continuing to come by for meals, which has allowed the restaurant to thrive. He said it is that community of “locals supporting the locals” that makes restaurants like his do so well.

“They are the reason any of this is happening,” he said. “The support is what we live on.”
