Entitled “The Prophecy Comes True,” the eighth and final episode of the first season wrapped up the beginning of Percy Jackson’s journey as based on Rick Riordan’s novels. The prophecy did come true by the end of the episode, although his adventures might continue if the show is renewed for a second season. Lance Reddick was a beloved actor who died on March 17, 2023. He played many roles across film, television, and video games. Before he passed away, Reddick played Zeus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Despite only appearing in the last episode, he expertly portrayed the Greek King of the Gods in the series. His Zeus exuded power, and his hatred of Percy and all he stood for was evident. Reddick was probably most known for his role as Cedric Daniels in HBO’s The Wire. He was also great in the otherwise mediocre Resident Evil Netflix series.

Perhaps more notable was his role as Charon in the John Wick series of films. Lance Reddick’s role in Percy Jackson and the Olympians was not his last role to be released, as he reportedly cameos in the upcoming John Wick spin-off film Ballerina. Gamers might know him as the voice of Commander Zavala in Destiny and Destiny 2 or as Sylens in Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West. As Zeus is a big part of the overall Percy Jackson story, Disney will need to recast the role if the series does get renewed.

His appearance as Zeus is bittersweet as we get to see him knock yet another role out of the park, but knowing that he won’t get to continue is a punch to the gut. Lance Reddick died at the age of 60 from heart disease. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie. The dedication rings true for the many fans Reddick accumulated over the years, and he will be missed. You can catch all of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, including Lance Reddick’s performance as Zeus, on Disney Plus now.
