On the ‘united opposition’ formed by the Congress, PM Modi said this perception has been created by them that ‘these (assembly) elections were only against Congress, whereas the reality is something else’

After BJP’s victory in three states of Hindi heartland, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the assembly elections’ results have given a glimpse of the “mood of the country”, and people have given a mandate for “stable, permanent and dedicated government”.

In an interview with news publication Dainik Jagran, when PM Modi was asked if the recently assembly elections can be considered “semi-finals to Lok Sabha”, he replied there is a “political class which used to say that there is no challenge before the BJP at the national level, but the party is not getting that much support in the states. That myth has also been broken by the results. We have not only formed governments in three states, there has been a record increase in BJP’s vote percentage in Telangana also”.

During the assembly polls, canvassing for votes happened in the name of PM Modi for the first time, would this trend continue in 2024? To this, PM Modi said ‘guarantee’ is not just limited to three letters. It has four criteria — policy, intentions, leadership and track record of work. “That’s why when I say Modi’s guarantee, the public looks at the entire history of the past years. The public is supportive of our policies, supportive of our intentions, supportive of our leadership and is constantly watching our track record”, PM Modi said as quoted by Jagran.

Modi also elaborated on the work done by the BJP government in terms of constructing four crore houses for poor in the last nine years, free ration scheme, transformation of Railways, and party’s leadership at local body and Panchayat levels. “Earlier, to get their rights, people had to visit government offices and pay bribes. Now, the government is going to the people, it is reaching those who have rights,” the PM stressed.

On the “united opposition” formed by the Congress, PM Modi said “laughingly” this perception has been created by them that “these elections were only against Congress, whereas the reality is something else”. “This INDIA alliance was not only a new type of strategy and a new experiment for the BJP. There was something in front but behind the scenes there was INDIA alliance. They had planned and created an illusion to cut the votes of BJP candidates, but the public foiled all their conspiracies,” he said.

Modi called debate on elections in North-South India a “balloon of lies” started by the Opposition, and such “politics of dividing the country is born out of despair”. “These people are trying to do anything to come to power. The country is watching this; the people of the country are watching this. I have full faith in the understanding of the people of the country”.
