Park Tavern, one of SF’s trendiest restaurants, has closed for good

Anna Weinberg’s Park Tavern, which overlooks Washington Square Park in North Beach, closed permanently Tuesday and vacated its space at 1652 Stockton St. The restaurant was first served an eviction notice on Nov. 1, David Tillotson, an attorney representing the landlord, confirmed to SFGATE.

The restaurant owed $508,968.19 in unpaid rent since May 2022, according to a lawsuit filed by landlord North Beach Associates LLC on Nov. 28. Park Tavern’s most recent lease began on Aug. 1, 2021, and was set to run for 10 years, according to the document. The landlord is also seeking another $13,149.28 in attorney fees and costs.

Park Tavern first opened in 2011 and was known for its massive dining room and classic American fare. The restaurant closed for a year and half during the pandemic as it underwent a luxurious remodel that included black marble floors and 1930s-era stained glass. It reopened in May 2023 with a swanky look and new, world-renowned executive chef, Marco Cerruti, who had previously worked at two-Michelin-starred Saison.
