O2 customers receive free summer mobile accessory that takes inspiration from Hailey Bieber’s viral lip case

O2 is giving customers a free phone accessory that takes inspiration from Hailey Bieber’s viral Rhode lip case.

Despite pretty bland weather so far this May, the giveaway is to coincide with Skin Cancer Awareness Month.

But the Rhode Lip Case from Hailey Bieber doesn’t come cheap, costing £35 with an option to add a treatment for another £16.

Instead, O2 has come up with a less fancy free alternative accessory to keep your skin safe in the sun.

The accessory sticks onto the back of your smartphone where it can hold a tiny 10ml bottle of sunscreen.

O2 is also including a tube of Green People’s facial sunscreen to attach to it.

The aim of the initiative – backed by The British Skin Foundation – is to get holiday goers to pay as much attention to their sun protection as they do to their mobile phone.

A poll commissioned by O2 found 65 per cent prioritise packing their phone over sunscreen.

Among those who do apply sunscreen, almost one in 10 (8 per cent) said they only do so when they feel they might be burning.

The limited-edition free mobile phone accessory will be available to redeem from selected O2 stores from May 15, while stocks last, on a first come first serve basis.

The importance of sun cream in your skincare routine

Dermatologist and skincare enthusiast Andrea Suarez – known as Dr Dray – revealed why you should wear suncream.

The one thing you can do that will make the biggest difference – and this matters for all ages – is protecting your skin from the sun, Andrea stressed.

“The vast majority of external aging is due to exposure to ultraviolet radiation,” she continued, not because you’re “not using some jazzy serum or layering 90 different things on your face everyday”.

“If you’re not doing in your 20s, get on that now.”

But she said the use of sun cream alone doesn’t go far enough. Andrea urged that you also wear sun-protective clothing like broad-brimmed hats and long sleeves, on top of not staying out too long in the sun.

Doing this over your lifetime – and all year, not just during the summer or on sunny days – “will reduce the visible signs of photoageing”, Andrea said.

Those are wrinkles, muddled pigmentation and sagging skin.
