Nottingham Forest complete Matz Sels signing

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of goalkeeper Matz Sels from Strasbourg.

Forest agreed a €6million (£5.1m, $6.5m) fee with the French club for the 31-year-old Belgium international earlier on Thursday.

Sels was keen to play in the Premier League and has now signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Forest.

Forest have been seeking an addition to their goalkeeper department, which already contains USMNT international Matt Turner and Greece’s No 1 Odysseas Vlachodimos, and made an offer earlier in the window for fellow Belgian Koen Casteels. Wolfsburg, though, were not open to letting the 31-year-old leave.

Sels previously spent time in England previously during a two-year spell at Newcastle United, where he made 14 appearances before losing his place to Karl Darlow.

Sels joined Strasbourg in 2018 and played 174 times for the Ligue 1 side. He has also been capped six times by Belgium, having made his senior debut in 2021.

The ‘keeper will wear the No 26 shirt at Forest, who are back in Premier League action on Sunday when they travel to Bournemouth.
