Danish forward Rasmus Hojlund has picked his dream strike partner at Manchester United and surprisingly, it is not his ‘idol’ Cristiano Ronaldo. Hojlund has improved exceptionally since joining Manchester United in August last year. Hojlund has fairly excelled in the role, scoring 13 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions.

Following Manchester United’s recent FA Cup win over Coventry City, Hojlund spoke to Sky Sports. He was asked to pick a club legend with whom he would like to play up front. He was quick to take the name of Wayne Rooney, who spent as many as 13 years at Old Trafford.

“I think I would take Wayne to be fair because he’s like a bulldog. He likes to work and he would do a massive job for me. He’s selfish but he wants to make you better and he wants to score goals as well. I think we could have a nice partnership together, especially with his size as well. He could drop deep and I could maybe make the deeper runs as well,” Rasmus Hojlund told Sky Sports, as quoted by the Mirror.

Rasmus Hojlund did mention Cristiano Ronaldo despite not choosing him as a forward partner. According to Hojlund, he grew up idolising Ronaldo and tried to model his game on the Portuguese superstar’s style of play.

“You never know, I’ve not played with him but I hope we would score many. There were a lot of players. I used to look at (Robert) Lewandowski a lot, Cristiano of course is my idol so I watched him a lot and Romelu Lukaku. We did a lot of video analysis when I was at Copenhagen and that’s what they do well,” Rasmus Hojlund added.

Wayne Rooney signed for Manchester United in 2004 after parting ways with Everton. He won as many as 16 trophies with the Red Devils. He left Manchester in 2017 as the all-time with 253 goals in 559 appearances.

Coming back to Rasmus Hojlund, he has so far registered seven goals and two assists for Manchester United in the Premier League this season. The 21-year-old is expected to return to action when Manchester United host Sheffield United in a Premier League fixture on April 25.
