new delhi municipal council: “Great, green and trashy New Delhi”: Danish envoy slams govt for garbage-ridden service lane near embassy

Danish Ambassador to India, Freddy Svane, on Wednesday drew attention to a litter-filled service lane close to the Embassy of Denmark and requested authorities to intervene.

Taking to X, the envoy posted a video and captioned: “Lovely and green New Delhi. Many words but no action. Saddened by this @DenmarkinIndia @CMODelhi @LtGovDelhi’.

In the video, Svane is standing in the middle of the lane and pointing to the trash and construction debris scattered along both sides of it.

“Welcome to great, green and trashy New Delhi,” he said in the video.

The envoy also pointed towards the embassy buildings of Denmark and Greece located on both sides of the lane.

“Here we have the Danish embassy and we have the Greek embassy over there. This area is supposed to be a service lane, but unfortunately, it is filled with trash as people are indiscriminately dumping their waste. Therefore, I am hopeful that someone will pay attention to this issue and take necessary actions. No more nice words, just action, my friends,” he added.

The Danish Embassy is situated in Chanakyapuri, which is the main diplomatic enclave of the country in the national capital.

A senior official of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) when asked about the video, said, “It (service lane) was cleaned after the matter came to light. We will also ensure that such a civic situation does not arise again.”

The civic area in the enclave is under the jurisdiction of the NDMC.
