When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie it’s the inspiration for a new beer collaboration.
That’s according to Fort Collins-based New Belgium Brewing Co. (now owned by Kirin), which recently teamed up with the Tombstone frozen pizza company on a new IPA. In this case, though, the acronym stands for “I(Pizza)A.”
The 7% ABV beer is a pizza-flavored version of New Belgium’s uber-popular Voodoo Ranger India pale ale. (No kidding.) According to the brewery’s website, it boasts notes of “Tombstone’s crispy crust, tangy tomato sauce, and savory herbs and spices.” It finishes with a dash of pepperoni-inspired heat.
While it’s unclear how the two companies hooked up for this collab, I(Pizza)A is said to be an homage to Wisconsin-based Tombstone’s “born-in-a-bar heritage.” It’s set for release on April 7 to celebrate National Beer Day.
The only way to get it in Colorado is by visiting New Belgium’s brewery in Fort Collins (500 Linden St.), which is where the beer was brewed. There drinkers can snag a four-pack of 16-ounce cans for $14.99.
Beer enthusiasts living in the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Virginia can order it directly to their doorsteps. However, it might be your priciest pizza delivery to date at $49.99 for a single four-pack of 16-ounce cans.
New Belgium is also running a contest now through April 7. Enter to win a four-pack at voodooranger.com/beer/i-pizza-a.
