Mum shares ‘easy’ method for extra crispy bacon – no oven or frying is needed

It turns out there is a better way to cook bacon, and it does not involve frying or baking it in the oven.

Donna Urso is a mum and cook who has shared her “simple” and relatively fast way” to achieve perfectly cooked bacon every time on her recipe website Just One Donna.

According to Donna, the secret is water, and boiling bacon helps moderate the temperature and can let the meat cook much more evenly, which results in crispier and tastier bacon.

Donna said: “This method is quick, and easy, and produces perfectly cooked bacon every time. The water helps to keep the bacon from burning and creates a consistent, crispy texture.

“You do need to watch it and flip the bacon, so the time it takes seems to be the same as the traditional method.”

To try out Donna’s easy method, all you need to do is place a large and cold pan on top of the stove.

Add enough water to cover the bottom of the pan, and the amount of water you need will depend on the size of the pan.

Next, simply add your bacon to the pan and let the water heat up to a shimmer. Make sure your bacon strips are spaced out and not overlapping.

Now all you have to do is wait for the bacon to cook. As the water shimmers, the bacon will change to a golden-brown colour and go crispy.

Once the bacon is fully cooked, drain the water and add your bacon to a generously buttered sandwich, fluffy pancakes or have it as part of a full English breakfast.

Donna swears by her easy cooking technique and believes frying can be “messy and time-consuming” while using an oven can result in the bacon coming out “inconsistent.”
