The 46-year-old and her son Kieren, 25, have both been left “traumatised” by the vicious attack.

Ziggy, a Spanish rescue dog, suffered from three deep puncture wounds to her throat and shoulder, the Daily Record reported.

The poor pooch was rushed to the vets for surgery, and also suffered from a number of puncture wounds and bruising across her body.

She was attacked while out on a walk with Kieren and the two dogs allegedly responsible for the mauling were an XL Bully type dog and the other a whippet cross bully.

The beasts were not muzzled or on a lead at the time.

Mum Amanda said she had raised concerns about her neighbour’s devil dogs with Wheatley Housing Group chiefs over the last 18 months, and feared Ziggy would be “torn apart” before the attack.

She said: “We’re all totally traumatised. I’ve moved my stuff out of the flat and I’m staying with my partner now. I’m not going back there. I just can’t be there any longer because it’s not safe.

“My concern is that next time it’s going to be a child and they won’t stand a chance.

“The police are investigating but the dogs are still there in the flat. They’ve not been removed because they never hurt my son Kieren or his friend who had to fight them off Ziggy. My son was taking her for a walk and as soon as he got outside, they swooped on her.

“They weren’t muzzled or on lead or anything so they started tearing her apart. The Bully latched onto her throat and the other one, which is a whippet cross bully, went for her body.

Horror moment ‘XL Bully’ LOCKS its jaws onto pet dog

“The owner ran up the stairs for a couple of minutes while his dogs were attacking her. We think he was going to get their leads. I’ve been warning that this is going to happen for the last 18 months because those dogs have tried to attack before but were muzzled.

“The last conversation I had with my housing officer was that I can’t stay there anymore because my dog was going to get ripped apart.

“That was two weeks ago and it’s now happened.”

Ziggy is still being looked after by vets following the attack as her wounds were left open for three days due to the risk of infection.

The treatment has racked up over £1300 on the vet bill.

Amanda admits that she doesn’t know how her beloved pooch survived the mauling.

The mum added: “Normally with an XL Bully, once they lock their jaws it’s normally game over. So she’s very lucky. We just pray it’s not going to change her temperament because she’s a brilliant dog.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.15pm on Saturday, 6 April, 2024 we received a report of a dog having been attacked by two other dogs on Cambusdoon Road, Glasgow. Enquiries are ongoing.”

A Wheatley Homes Glasgow spokesperson told the Daily Record: “We’ve been very clear with our tenant about their responsibilities as a dog owner. They are fully responsible for the actions of their dog and making sure they are muzzled and on a lead in public.

“We take our responsibilities as a landlord very seriously and will carry out any further action required following any police investigation.”

Last week, an XL Bully locked its jaw around a Labrador’s neck as desperate shoppers watched on in horror on Irvine High Street.

Frantic owners of both dogs are filmed as they rain kicks and punches on the crazed animal in a bid to free the other dog from its clutches.

Why were XL Bullies banned?

XL Bullies were added to the dangerous dogs list by the UK Government after several people were killed by the deadly dogs.

Ministers said the breed had been behind a “disproportionate” number of attacks where people had been killed.

Grandmother Esther Martin, 68, suffered unsurvivable injuries after being mauled to death by her son-in-law’s two XL Bullies in Jaywick, Essex.

Esther’s death prompted her son-in-law Warren, who previously defended the breed, calling for XL Bullies to be “wiped out”.

Last October in Sunderland, Ian Langley, 54, was mauled to death by an XL Bully while trying to protect his puppy Beau.

Ian Price, 52, died while reportedly protecting his elderly mum from one of the vicious dogs in Stonall, Staffordshire.

The new legislation sparked fierce debate over the deadly breed – with some agreeing the powerful dogs should be outlawed while others insist it is bad owners to blame and not the animals.

Rangers star Todd Cantwell is one of those who has come out defending the breed. Owners have even protested in London and Glasgow against the ban.

In February new laws were put in place to deal with XL-bully type dogs.

Scots owners could be slapped with a £5,000 fine or even JAIL if they don’t comply with the strict rules of owning the breed.

From the end of February, it is now illegal to sell, breed, abandon or give away an XL Bully in Scotland.

Any XL Bully type dog must be kept on a lead and muzzled in public.

A ban was imposed in England and Wales at the start of this year after the fatal maulings.

Scotland saw an influx of owners and breeders bringing their XL Bullies north of the border to escape the ban down south.

Since the law came into place in England, two XLs have had to be shot dead by armed cops in separate attacks in East Kilbride and Hamilton.

A woman in Bothwell was left with horror facial injuries earlier this month after trying to protect a puppy from one of the dogs.
