A MOBILE brand big in the 90s and 00s is taking another crack at the cheap and cheerful “brick” market with three new phones.

And they only start at £55.

Nokia is hoping to win the hearts of Gen Z with a line-up ideal for the “social media-weary” looking to switch off and take a digital detox.

The trio are available in a range of bold colours with pretty basic features.

Unlike most phones today they don’t support 5G.

But they do all come with the iconic Nokia game Snake and support FM radio too.

The cheapest of the bunch, the new Nokia 215 4G, doesn’t even have a camera on it.

“We had fewer apps in the noughties,” Nokia says.

“Fewer channels to be present on. But were we any less in touch?

“Strip away today’s notifications from likes, shares, and comments, and what you’re left with are conversations with people you care about the most.”

It’s available now in Peach, Black and Dark Blue for £54.99.

Further up the chain is the Nokia 225 4G for £59.99 with a tiny 2.4-inch LCD display on it.

It does have a camera but it’s only 0.3-megapixels.

The device also sports Bluetooth and a battery that Nokia owner HMD claims will give users up almost 10 hours of talk time.

And the top of the range is the Nokia 235 4G, which has everything the Nokia 225 4G has to offer, just with a slightly bigger screen and better camera at 2-megapixels.

It retails for £64.99.

The most modern thing about all three is that they support USB-C charging like every phone these days.

‘SOCIAL MEDIA-WEARY’

Nokia has been going big on the idea of digital detoxing recently.

The Finnish firm revealed a nostalgia-tripping flip phone for Heineken last month.

It’s been aptly named the Boring Phone because it can’t even connect to the internet.

The stripped back idea is designed to encourage people to enjoy better real-life connections on nights out by disconnecting.

NOKIA: THE HIGHS AND LOWS

Nokia was the biggest mobile brand around in the late 90s and early 00s.

But the Finnish firm’s history dates back much further, all the way to 1865 when it was established.

Many will remember the iconic 3210 and 3310 which were released in 1999.

But it’s the Nokia 1100 that holds the world record for biggest selling mobile phone, having sold 250million units in 2003.

Nokia eventually fell out of favour as competitors like Blackberry came along.

In 2012, Nokia fell off the top five smartphone makers in the world, for the first time in a decade.

The company gave up on making phones and focused on making network equipment for other businesses.

Little-known mobile phone maker HMD signed a licensing agreement with Nokia in 2016 to use the Nokia brand on its products – which is what we see today with the Nokia 215 4G, Nokia 225 4G and Nokia 235 4G.
