The historical drama, which debuted on Netflix, has the whole internet talking about it. Speaking of Manisha Koirala, she did a fantastic job as Mallikajaan. For those who haven’t watched the show, Mallikajaan killed Rehana as payback for her selling her baby boy to a rich lord. She then becomes the top courtesan of Shahi Mahal. Fardeen (Sonakshi Sinha), Rehana’s daughter, was determined to recover her birthright, the Shahi Mahal, and went to Heeramandi to exact revenge on Mallikajaan. What happens next is drama, betrayal and historical magnificence. Manisha Koirala spoke about her experience coping with depression while working on SLB’s debut series. The actress revealed that she frequently experienced mood swings and depression during the filming process.
Manisha Koirala Battled With Depression While Shooting For Heeramandi
Manisha Koirala shared her struggle with cancer and how it affected her, leaving her to deal with depression whilst filming Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series, in an interview with NDTV. She said, “Impacted by cancer, I know how body and mind health are intertwined.”
“Even now, sometimes I go through depression. During the Heeramandi shoot, depression consumed me so much that my mood swings were like… I was like, ‘Sail through this phase. Once this is out, focus on your health, ” she added.
Heeramandi is set against the backdrop of the Indian independence movement. The historical drama depicts the conflict that existed between the courtesans in Lahore’s Heera Mandi red-light area and the government under the British Raj.

Manisha Koirala, who plays Mallikajaan in the program, spoke candidly about her collaborations with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in an interview with Bollywood Bubble. She also discussed the private scene from the first episode, in which Mallikajaan and Nawab Zulfikar, played by Shekhar Suman, are shown riding in a horse-drawn carriage. “See, every little thing Sanjay does, he tries to bring in a new element that we hadn’t thought of, and he does it. So even about this scene, when rehearsals were going on, it must have been new.”
